Árón Smith is a competitor in the 2014 BTCC Season, driving alongside Alain Menu and Warren Scott for CHROME Edition Restart Racing.[1] Smith's brother, Gavin, has also raced in the BTCC, for VX Racing in .[1]

Current SeasonEdit

Smith made his debut for his new team, CHROME Edition Restart Racing, at Brands Hatch Indy, taking a best finish of seventh at the meeting.[2] This meeting was also the first time that Smith drove the new Volkswagen CCs that the team are equipping their drivers with this season.[2]

Smith began his career, like most, in go-karting, ultimately winning the Irish Open Kart Championship in 2006.[3] In 2007, Smith joined one of the BTCC's support championships, the Renault Clio Cup.[3] In 2008 Smith took part in the winter edition of the series, beating future BTCC and WTCC competitor Alex MacDowall in the process of winning the title.[3] In 2010, Smith switched to the Italian version of the Clio Cup, before returning to compete once more in the UK version, ending the 2011 season joint second in the championship.[3]

BTCC HistoryEdit

In 2011, during Smith's campaign for the Clio Cup title, Triple Eight Race Engineering offered Smith a chance to drive one of their Vauxhall Vectra's at Knockhill.[3] A promising debut resulted in a single point, and prompted Smith to follow his brother into the championship the following year.[3]

Maiden WinEdit

For the next two years, Smith drove a Ford Focus ST for Motorbase Performance (racing under the names Airwaves Racing in 2013 and Redstone Racing in 2012).[3] It was at the season finale at Brands Hatch's GP circuit that Smith made announced himself to the paddock, taking victory in the penultimate race of 2012.[3] This was backed by another four podiums in 2013.[3]

Team BMR announced that they would be fielding Smith and former BTCC champion Alain Menu in Volkswagen CCs, alongside team owner Warren Scott in a Vauxhall Insignia for 2014.[1]
