Williamson was already well known in the world of motorsport before he entered the BSCC in 1959. Williamson had competed in numerous sports car events since 1954, building a respected reputation in the world of sports cars. In 1959, Williamson began obtained a drive with Alexander Engineering Co. who were to run cars in the BSCC during 1959.
Williamson's first race came at the Crystal Palace meeting of 1959, with Alexander Engineering entering an Austin A40 on Williamson's behalf. The move proved successful, with Williamson taking victory in his class (and the race overall). Two more victories emerged from the rest of the season, with Williamson opting to continue with the series. However Williamson would only appear in the championship twice more, with a show of his potential at the opening round of 1960, where he drove from last to third in his A40.
