Jimmy Blumer was a former British Touring Car Championship driver and class winner, having won the Class B championship in 1963. Blumer's only major contribution to the BTCC was in 1963, although he had made a single appearance in 1960.
Background[]
Blumer began his racing career at the age of eighteen, entering the 1950 Monte Carlo Rally, the youngest starter at the rally that year.[1] Blumer's career expanded to include sports cars and touring cars during the 1950s and 60s, with Blumer making his BTCC debut in 1960.[1]
BTCC History[]
In 1960, Blumer drove at the sixth meeting of the season at Brands Hatch, using an Austin Mini Seven run by Downton Engineering Ltd. A third place finish resulted, although Blumer would not appear in the BSCC again until 1963.
Blumer was offered the chance to drive in the BRSCC six-hour endurance race at Brands Hatch, partnering Mike Parkes in his Jaguar Mk II in 1962.[1] After this, Blumer obtained the chance to drive in the BSCC for a full season, using an Alan Andrews Racing Ford Cortina GT. After a disapointing fifth place in the second round, Blumer finished second in the third meeting, having had a race long battle with Jack Sears. After Sears left the Class to drive his Ford Galaxie, Blumer was able to take full advantage. Two wins and a second place resulted, although Blumer would not return for the final three meetings of the season, ending the season in fifth place overall and Class B champion.
