Nick Brittan is a former British Saloon Car Championship driver, who raced a Hillman Imp for the Alan Fraser Racing Team in 1966.

Background[]

Brittan spent five years in go-karts, taking a European title and becoming captain of the British National team.[1] He took the 1965 Rootes Cold Cup and became the Spring Grove Novice of the Year when he competed in his first saloon car championship, stepping up to the BSCC in 1966.[1]

BTCC History[]

Alan Fraser took up the Novice of the Year for 1966, giving him a Hillman Imp to drive with Ray Calcutt as his team mate.[2] After retiring on his debut with an engine failure, Brittan got onto the podium in the next two, battling with team mate Calcutt for second in both.[2] Brittan claimed his first BSCC victory at Brands Hatch, having overtaken fellow Imp man Bernard Unett in the closing stages, ultimately finishing eighth overall and third in class in the final standings.[2]

With Alan Fraser dropping Brittan and Calcutt in favour of Unett and Tony Lanfranchi, Brittan obtained a drive with Superspeed Conversions Ltd. using a Ford Anglia Super in Class B.[3] The year was plagued by issues for Brittan, retiring from four races and failing to start one, although he did achieve a podium after a long battle against the Minis at Silverstone, his best finish that season.[3] He finished the year with ten points, but opted to focus on other motorsport series and became an event organiser.[1]
