Speedworks Motorsport are a British Touring Car Championship team, currently entering a Toyota Avensis in the 2014 season.[1]
Current Season[]
Speedworks are the leading team with the Toyota Avensis, running effectively a factory backed car (having built it themselves) while also supporting Handy Motorsport.[2] For 2014, their only driver is Tom Ingram.[1]
History[]
Speedworks was founded in 2005 by Christian and Amy Dick, whom entered cars in the MaX5 Championship.[3] The husband and wife team switched to the Ginetta Championship in 2007, and have helped to progress the careers of numerous drivers.[2] In 2011, alongisde making their debut in the BTCC, Speedworks also began entering a Chevrolet Corvette in the British GT Championship.[2]
The Next Generation[]
Speedworks entered the 2011 season as one of the teams helping to develop the Next Generation Touring Car, building a Toyota Avensis to the freshly announced regulations, the first car to fully comply to the regs.[2] Tony Hughes brought both sponsorship and ability to the team, becoming the first driver to race an NGTC car that year, although the new technology meant that the team suffered problems early on.[3] Hughes took a best finish of fourteenth, with the Speedworks team deciding to add a second car to the garage in 2012.[3]
Adam Morgan made his debut for the team (and in the BTCC) in the second car in 2012, with Hughes continuing with the team.[3] Morgan completed a full season with the team, while Hughes (who had business meetings to deal with), missed two rounds and was replaced (at both) by Paul O'Neill.[1] O'Neill claimed the team's best ever finish of fourth at Knockhill, although Morgan and Hughes were dropped at the end of the year.[1] Dave Newsham and Ollie Jackson were brought in for 2013, with Newsham claiming the team's first top-ten table finish at the end of the year.[3]
In 2014, Speedworks sold one of the Avensises to Handy Motorsport, but agreed to help the debuting team to run the car for the year.[3] Speedworks' remaining car was issued to Tom Ingram for the season, who had worked with the team in the Ginetta championship.[2]
