Steve Neal is a former British Saloon Car Championship driver, and father of triple champion Matt Neal. Neal is currently the team principle of Team Dynamics, the group he founded in 1991.[1]

Background[]

Neal had limited experience before he started in the BSCC, mainly in club events while working as a mechanic and engineer.

BTCC History[]

Neal joined the Equipe Arden team in 1965, racing at half of the season's races.[2] Neal's debut came at Oulton Park, claiming points in the main Mini Cooper battle.[2] Neal claimed a podium at the final race of the season, although these were his only points finishes.[2]

Equipe Arden also gave Neal half season drives in 1966 and 1967, with Neal claiming his first win in the BSCC.[3] After a race long battle with John Rhodes in the Coopers, Neal claimed victory at Silverstone in Class B.[3] Neal left Arden at the end of the season, joining Rhodes at the Cooper Car Co. team.[4]

With factory backing, Neal demonstrated his speed, claiming a second (and final) victory in his career at Crystal Palace.[4] Neal was constantly battling at the top of Class B, frequently on the podium, and could have beat Rhodes, but for two retirements at the end of the year.[4] Neal stayed with Cooper after they lost factory backing, joining up with Downton Engineering and Britax to form Britax-Cooper-Downton.[5] He partnered Gordon Spice for the year, ultimately missing a race to help Spice in his outside chance of winning the class title.[5] Neal was in constant battle with the BL MC cars (which were now the factory backed cars), leaving Spice to battle with the Broadspeed cars.[5] By the end of the season, Neal had managed to beat the BL cars, but decided to leave the championship.[5]

Neal would return, however, in 1992, as he founded Team Dynamics and began entering a car for his son Matt.[1] He continues to run the team, helping run two cars for Matt and Gordon Shedden at Team Dynamics, with the team having won numerous titles.[1]
